On March 26, 2025, after 52 days, 10 hours and 21 minutes at sea, Ruby Coates and Steff Evans—together known as Waves to Awareness—stepped onto Antiguan soil to complete a journey few can imagine. The pair had just rowed over 3,200 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Lanzarote, making them the first mixed pair to complete the Atlantic Dash and setting a new record for the fastest crossing in the category.
Elmsbridge is proud to have supported Ruby and Steff on this extraordinary effort—not only as sponsors, but as members of the Antiguan community who were thrilled to welcome them home.
The Challenge: Lanzarote to Antigua
The Atlantic Dash is one of the most demanding ocean rowing challenges in the world. With no motor or sail, just human power, teams navigate unpredictable weather, powerful ocean currents, and weeks of physical and mental strain. For Ruby and Steff, the goal wasn’t just to finish, but to push themselves to the limit and bring attention to causes close to their hearts — raising money for maritime safety awareness for the Caribbean Maritime Safety Association and the National Sailing Academy Antigua
Ruby and Steff are maritime professionals based in Antigua. Beyond this race, they’re known for their work teaching sea survival and search-and-rescue training, and for founding a non-profit dedicated to improving water safety and swimming skills in the Caribbean.
More Than a Finish Line
Antigua is more than just the endpoint of the Atlantic Dash—it’s home for Ruby and Steff. Their return wasn’t just a celebration of endurance, but a moment of connection with the island community they serve and care so deeply about.
Hosting the finish line of the Atlantic Dash underscores Antigua’s growing reputation as a hub for global rowing and sailing events. It’s also an opportunity to highlight the island’s culture, hospitality, and strong maritime tradition.
At Elmsbridge, we believe in backing people who are doing bold things with purpose. Supporting Waves to Awareness was an easy decision—and seeing them cross that finish line in record time was a moment we won’t forget.
Congratulations, Ruby and Steff!
